Re: UK Amateur Internationals

Thanks for buying the book, Andy, and the more than welcome comments and additions. The amateur sides in Bohemia were picked by the Amateur Football Association so the Sportsman's remark is somewhat true. I'll have a look at the reports again as I don't have Main in the squad unless he was a late ad...

East Stirlingshire history booklets

Drummond Calder has published the first of a series of booklets detailing the early history of ES. The first gives the in-depth story of the first 3 seasons. The club's formation is fully covered with extensive records of the matches, the players and grounds. If there is sufficient interest, subsequ...

Re: Admira Wien tour of Scotland 1954

Admira won 2-1.
They were originally meant to play Aberdeen on 10 April, but the Dons had a cup-tie that day. A new date was arranged (15 Apr). Admira were scheduled to play Forres/Elgin after the Stirling game but appears the latter match was put off in favour of the Aberdeen match.

Re: Admira Wien tour of Scotland 1954

21/04/54 St Johnstone W 2-1 4,600

A proposed match against a combine Forfarshire XI (Brechin, Forfar, Montrose and Arbroath) was scuppered because Admira wanted a £500 guarantee.

Re: Scottish Cup

In the 1880-81 first round, the Athole v Whitefield tie [25 Sep] has been recorded as being awarded to Athole after a protest. I've found that this was actually the THIRD game, ending 2-1 for Athole after extra time, meaning there were two previous matches [on 11 and 18 Sep], presumably one of those...

Scottish Cup

The 1876-77 first round tie between St Andrew's and Ayr Eglinton, recorded in most, if not all sources as a walkover, was actually played in Ayr on 7 Oct 1876. Eglinton wanted to use the Racecourse but Cup rules prohibited public grounds being used so after a delay an agreement with Ayr Thistle saw ...

Re: Scoring in consecutive SPL/top-flight matches

And trust Allan to post such a comprehensive account of Evlyn's career. What a phenonemal scoring record surely worthy of an entry in the HOF?
