Re: Alexander Wood

An amendment to the above, the West Lothian Libraries History HQ has moved from Blackburn to Linlithgow (old court buildings I think), along with the newspaper microfilms, which include the West Lothian Courier and the Linlithgow Gazette.

Re: Sir Sean Connery

I have a Bonnyrigg team group photo from the period, it’s taken at City Park in Edinburgh before a cup final (can’t remember off hand which one), and Sean Connery is in the front row. If you click on the link above then it shows you the picture, although in poor resolution. He did play at least one ...

Re: "B" international in Mainz 2002

Sad to hear that - but not surprised. "Modern fitba" - money is all, supporters are incidental. As you point out that's one tidy wee source of income for the SFA. Take it the Guidance Notes are no more then - they were superb, very collectable in themselves. Aye, it went from the old styl...

Re: "B" international in Mainz 2002

Sad that that's how the "Travel Club" has gone. I let my membership lapse a few years back now - I joined right at the start (No.306 I think I was). Progress.........not! I’m afraid not Boris, we’re now a “Supporters Club” with 30k members, of which probably only 2,000 travel on a regular...

Re: "B" international in Mainz 2002

Spot on re comments about big Willie & Marjory. What a lovely, classy lady she was. Recall all the help she gave to us when we were sorting a trip to the games in Busan (South Korea) & Hong Kong in 2002. Also recall fondly her getting in touch when I was in hospital several months later wit...

Re: Scottish Referee

Done, and used some of my other votes for the West Lothian Courier, which is a great resource not only for Junior football, but also for the days or Armadale FC, Bathgate FC, Broxburn senior clubs, and Bo'ness FC.

Re: Scotland/World Cup

The way I look at the current situation, and let’s be honest it’s been like this for a very long time, is that given we have a lack of real quality in the squad it is absolutely crucial that we have a manager who plays to whatever strengths we have. Strachan has failed to do this throughout his tenu...

Re: Scotland/World Cup

Darren Fletcher an imposter of a footballer? wow. Anyway, Strachan was a bad appointment four years ago and he's still a bad one. He should have the dignity to say he has done all that he is capable of, which is not a lot, and resign now. His squad selections/omissions and tactics have never worked ...

Midlothian Junior League 1893-94

This appears to have been the inaugural season of the league which lasted in various forms until the outbreak of WWII. At the beginning it was also known as the Donaldson League. I'm interested to see any newspaper reports reporting on the formation of this league in 1893, and in particular who the ...

Cleaning up the forums?

Just a wee observation, I notice that there is a heck of a lot of "Announcements" and sticky posts sitting at the top of each forum, most of which are woefully out of date/served their purpose, and it makes finding the latest posts/most current thread on each forum that little bit more dif...

Just an update, all books paid for to date have been posted, I'll be away on holiday from Thursday so I'll be out of the loop for 10 days. If you want to purchase a copy before then please do so before Wednesday and I'll get them in the post before I disappear. Thanks.

Re: East of Scotland Junior Football - A Statistical History

One copy duly ordered, best wishes with the book! Further to the Forth League Cup of 1901-02, wasn't this actually a decider for the League Championship rather than a separate cup competition? And for 1902-03 I also have Inverkeithing Thistle and Glencraig Rangers as members so Fife clubs were stil...
