Re: Player wages through history
Great stuff, thanks. This raises another issue, what was the protocol for signing a player from a junior club? This seems to suggest that up to this point, junior clubs would not be paid a fee for their players. Was it case of once a player had committed to play at junior level for the season, he co...

Re: Player wages through history
Thanks for your detailed explanations. I take your point on amateur players outside of Queen's Park, however the game does go back to 1890. So for the first few years everyone will be amateur and I read in 'First 100 years' that a lot of squads would be filled out with amateurs, especially the reser...

Re: Player wages through history
Nowadays I can see the choice comes down to the history of Queen's Park and playing at Hampden, versus a paltry £30-40 a game playing for Peterhead. Or perhaps it's a question of players being based in Glasgow for work and not being good enough to play for Rangers, Celtic or Partick - but then you'...

Re: Player wages through history
Thanks for the information so far. I have the wages model working reasonably well for non-amateur players. I wondered if anyone has some knowledge about how amateur contracts work, particularly for clubs like Queen's Park but also in general when clubs like Celtic or Rangers would have amateur playe...

Re: Player wages through history
Thanks for the replies. I am reading "The First 100 Years" which has a few snippets on wages. I'll share my findings and some early screenshots from the game when I've finished. Any information is valuable, even if it's something like 'Hearts average wage in 1970 was £25". I'd also be interested in ...

Re: Player wages through history
That would be excellent, Hearts would probably be a good barometer for the 'average' top flight wage - paying less than Celtic, Rangers & Aberdeen but more than Kilmarnock, Dundee etc. I'm particularly interested to know what happened around the start of the century, when the Football League felt wa...

Re: Attendances by club/season
Hi there, I got David Ross' book so have scanned in the stats pages into Excel and am just cleaning any mis-reads. But if you have it already to hand that would be great...especially as the book doesn't include some seasons (e.g. 1893 to 1904 and post 2004). It also doesn't include Division C so I'm...

Re: Scotland/World Cup
From the outside looking in, as an English fan who supports the other 'home' nations over the over-rated pansies in white, it's quite surprising how badly Strachan has done. There's much more depth of talent in the Scotland squad (and outside the squad) than say Northern Ireland or Wales, excluding ...

Re: Player wages through history
This thread would seem to indicate that there was never a maximum wage in Scotland. http://www.scottishleague.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1754&p=9499&hilit=wages#p9499 I'm guessing that the gap between the Old Firm and the rest, or England and Scotland, probably wasn't as pronounced as it is today...

Player wages through history
Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge about how wages in the Scottish League have evolved since inception. Apart from that the league didn't turn professional until 1893, I can't find anything about whether there was a maximum wage, minimum wage, talent money, benefit games etc and when/if...

Re: Attendances by club/season
Thanks for the suggestion. I found that after posting, seems to be out of stock on Amazon. Someone is selling a 2nd hand copy for £35 so that might be the way to go as a last resort.

Attendances by club/season
I recently released a new historical football management game on Steam, whereby you can manage in the English League from 1888-1998. http://store.steampowered.com/app/511790/ A number of users have enquired whether we could add the Scottish League. One of the key pieces of data we would need to do t...
