What took football so long to use floodlights? Hawick played Melrose under lights in 1879 and made £63 into the bargain.

Football could always take a cue from rugby in the amateur era, when you had listings such as Hamish Arbuthnott-Cameron-Highlander (Glasgow Accies and the Army) or Gavin Macdonald-Smyth (Watsonians and Cambridge University). I know wikipedia is not to be trusted, but under Rab Douglas' entry it says he scored 4 goals in his first spell at Dundee. Really?

Or you could have the Scottish Rugby XV Dream Pack of the three Milne brothers in the front row, the Brown brothers in the second and the Calder twins plus their elder brother in the back row - or am I being silly now?
