Re: Eric Bakie Obituary
Thanks, Alan, it is an informative obituary. Eric made his debut for Dunfermline in July 1951, a 4-5 defeat by Albion Rovers in the first round of the St. Mungo Quaich. A record crowd of 19,491 saw the League Cup quarter-final tie against Rangers but this was broken only a few months later when 23,2...

Four more possibilities with King's Park connections, so they may need further research. Archibald McLellan - Private S/5816, 9th Seaforth Highlanders. Killed by shell fire on 18th April 1918, aged 24. From Stirling, reported as having played for Cowie Wanderers and 'engaged in a number of matches f...

Re: 'New' Fife FA 1903
Thanks, I thought that was the case. It seems that Cowdenbeath, Lochgelly and Dunfermline wanted to withdraw from the Northern League because they were earning little more than the guarantee from away fixtures. At the meeting in Kirkcaldy in March to discuss the Fife League proposal, Hearts of Beath...

Re: 'New' Fife FA 1903
David, were Cowdenbeath not expelled from the 1902/03 King Cup after going ahead with a pre-arranged Northern League match instead of their cup tie? Dunfermline did the same on 7th February, playing Cowdenbeath in the Wemyss Cup after being ordered by the East of Scotland FA to play a Consolation Cu...

Re: Celtic v Borders Select - Photo - Date? Venue?
There had been a trail match at Mossilee on Wednesday, 4 April with a view to selecting a team to play Heart of Midlothian, Celtic and Rangers later in the month, according to the Southern Reporter the following day. It gives the teams and the clubs they represented. If you haven't got access to the...

Re: Celtic v Borders Select - Photo - Date? Venue?
Celtic played a Borders Select on Wednesday, 18 April 1906 at Mossilee, Galashiels. I believe the score was 4-0 to Celtic. A newspaper report on the day of the game gave Celtic's team as Adams, Watson, McLeod, Young, McNair, Hay, Bennett, McMenemy, Quinn, Somers, Bauchop. However, a later report sai...

Re: Consecutive Penalties / Penalties in a Season
George Duthie of Dunfermline also scored 14 penalties in 1957/58. Like Hubbard it was 12 League & 2 League Cup. They must have shared the British record until 1971/72, when that infamous Manchester City player Lee Won Pen netted 13 in the league and 2 in cup-ties. Leatherstocking, Baird & Shearer al...

Re: Number of Players Used in a Season
Dunfermline used 14 players in winning promotion in 1933/34. It would perhaps have been lower but for the four different players given a run in the 'problem' number nine jersey.

Re: Playing Each Other 4 Times Running
I would imagine it happened fairly frequently in the pre-WW1 Scottish Qualifying Cup, which was given precedence over other competitions. In 1910/11 Dunfermline met Kirkcaldy United in four successive QC ties between 17 September and 5 October. Dunfermline also played Raith Rovers four times in a ro...
