Leicester, 22nd August 2001 Career: St Charles (Paisley); 1946 Arthurlie; Dec 1948 CITY; July 1960 Peterboroug...

Re: Raymond Clark *sp

Hi,

Absolutely minimal info, I'm afraid:

Raymond CLARK: outside-left; Neilston Waverley / Arthurlie / Leicester City (Jan 1960, £200) / Stamford (1962, free).
No first-team apps for Leicester.

Would appreciate any precise birth / death details should they come to hand.

Re: Coaches to Norway and Sweden

Yorkshire Evening Post of 11.5.46 gives list of 22 of the 26 players on three-month contracts to coach in Norway. NB that these were active players rather than specialist coaches at that point, and they were under the co-ordination of Tom Mitchell, the then York City manager. T Holley & G Ainsley (L...

Re: More dates of birth and death

Hi Stephen, On the 1911 census, Adam McCall, professional footballer boarding with the Grove family in Eastville, Bristol, is aged 26 and a native of Kilmarnock. On this basis, the 1901 finds him in the family home in Kilmarnock, an apprentice iron turner, son of Thomas & Margaret. [The London-based...

Re: Walter Jack Clyde FC manager 1905 to 1909

Just to muddy the waters slightly further on this, a para from the Western Daily Press of Tues 17th November 1903: "The directors of the Bristol Rovers club have secured a new player in Walter Jack, who comes from Boness. His usual position is outside-right." [And, indeed, there was a winger called ...

Re: The Strange Moonlighting of Hamilton Academical

There's at least one mention per season of these immediately post-season Charity Cup clashes in newspapers accessible via BNLA (search via "mid-annandale" + hamilton), utilising words or phrases such as 'deputised', 'alias', 'represented by', 'for the nonce, playing under Mid-Annandale's colours, to...

A McCaskill / Third Lanark

Any info available, please on A McCaskill (believed to be Alexander) who was on Third Lanark's books for the 1936/7 season after signing from Shawfield Juniors? Any first-team apps/gls? Any subsequent club affiliations? [Pretty sure this is the guy who made two WW2 guest apps for LCFC, who I've prev...

Re: Another Scotland international - J Gourlay x2

I should have added to the above query that the Luffs' John Gourlay was, to the best of my knowledge, the illegitimate child of coalminer Owen Gourlay and his housekeeper, registered as Gourley.

Re: Scottish Footballers Roll of Honour

I have removed Ronald Gilchrist Brebner from the list as he did not die due to war injuries, his death was due to an accident where he drowned in the river Tees. Sorry to have to be pedantic, Ron Brebner's death occurred in Chiswick: (extract from profile in "Of Fossils & Foxes" follows): ... Havin...
