Re: George Sinclair (Hearts 1908-21)

1911 Census shows George L Sinclair, footballer (professional), age 26, b. Edinburgh, living at 54 Albion Road with wife and one infant

22-year-old George Sinclair in Leith as a packing case maker at a sawmill (though no absolute guarantee that this is GWL Sinclair).

Hope this helps.

Re: Oldest Surviving Scottish Internationalists

I realise neither are now 'surviving', but I'm reduced to owning up that I'm still bereft of absolutely reliable information on two of Leicester City's sometime Scottish internationals; and sincerely hope that a board member might be able to proffer chapter & verse on both/either of the following Pa...

Re: Scottish Rovers

Just a quick line re George Hastie: it was Johnstone, not St Johnstone, for whom he signed in September 1920.
Btw, I've tracked down his demise: in Florida, USA, Nov 1982.

Re: Scottish Luffs

Sincere thanks, 'scottish'. I'm sadly more than aware of the pitfalls around mis-identifying two men of the same name/same period, but the John Gourlay connection just seems (potentially) 'so' poetic (both for and against the Luffs). Not sure we'll EVER get to the bottom of this one; though I'm not ...

Scottish Luffs

As a sideline to LCFC researches, I'm currently in the foothills of researching a who's who of Loughborough's players in the Midland Alliance, Midland League and Football League in the final decade of the 19th Century. There were, of course, the regulation quota of Scots-born players amongst them, a...

Re: Jimmy Dickson: Dunfermline/Partick/Cowden

I've now found Tommy on Scotland's People (albeit mis-indexed as Thomas Whitefor Dickson):
Born Glasgow, 11 June 1909
Died Glasgow 1996

Thanks again for the help in unravelling this one.

Re: Jimmy Dickson: Dunfermline/Partick/Cowden

Sincere thanks, all. Quite remarkable – and bloody embarrassing - that I've contrived to have the wrong forename of this guy all these years. I've re-checked, and the Leicester press did have him as Jimmy at the time he signed, but it's a bit of a limp excuse...

Jimmy Dickson: Dunfermline/Partick/Cowden

Wondering if anyone can help me flesh out -- or, more likely, correct -- the scant details I have on this former Leicester City reserve player, please? Here is the entry most recently published in the 2010 edition of 'Of Fossils & Foxes', which I feel is both inadequate and, now, potentially erroneo...

Re: Joe Kissock

Bethia actually joined him in Wellington a year after his voyage: she embarked from Liverpool to Wellington on the exact same ship in October 1924. She was, indeed, Scottish-born.

Probably the latter: he had no partner with him on the outward voyage.

Re: Joe Kissock

Just a PS: He married Bethia Cowie Clark in New Zealand in 1924. (It's her name that difficult to distinguish on his 1942 draft card). She died in Contra Costa, California on 3rd July 1997.

Re: Daniel Shields, Celtic & Barrow?

Not, I'm afraid, one of my areas of expertise – and possibly no help whatsoever – but you might widen (or narrow?) your search for a playing pseudonym for this guy by the only trivia I've come up with in a quick inquisitive sleuth round the web: You can google for the exact url, but there's an Ances...
