Big Cup upsets ? Well, I can`t let this one pass ! Battlefield put out Queen`s Park in 1885`s 3rd Round. Queen`s were the holders & the game was @ 2nd Hampden Park. Battlefield was more or less Queen`s feeder club where those who couldn`t get a game in any of the Hampden Xls were sent to. This game ...

If it hand`t been for a biased referee in 1884, all the Queen`s Park players vs. Blackburn would have collected Scottish & English winners` medals that year.

Cricket`s Douglas Jardine is a must. Not only did he organise the battering of the uppity colonials in the 1932-33 tour but he got right up the noses of the English too. Great.

The best OG I ever saw was @ Hampden circa 1964 Queen`s vs. I think Albion Rovers when Spiders` centre half Billy Neill dived at a cross to bullet a header past R.B.Clark who didn`t even have a chance to adopt his famous arms spread "look I know I can`t possibly stop this shot but, hey, I`ll look go...

OWN GOALS

Apropos nothing really but I wondered what others thought of the "own goal" attribution. I understand that in Italian league football the goal is attributed to the last player to touch the ball before it crosses the goal line. In Scotland, I presume the selfpreservationleague & the Scottish League a...

FAMOUS GLASGOW RANGERS HISTORIC SUCCESS

"Famous Glasgow Rangers` Historic European success" ! Yes, quite. Well actually it is quite historic - a team qualifying from a European Cup section with only one win: only Feyenoord in 1999-2000, Liverpool in 2001-02 & Ajax in 2002-03 have qualified with such a pitiful record. Feyenoord & Ajax, how...

Walter Wallcarpeting wants to phase out the B Internationals & the SFA won`t replace Rainer with a full time man. Fare dos: these B games don`t contribute much (sorry, yes they do - they allow men with no future like Fat Boab Malcolm to represent their country) but there doesn`t seem much structure ...

Keep yer chin up. A top 6 place is still probable @ Rugby Perk. Not quite so certain for The Famous Glasgow Rangers though. The very idea of only 3 league meetings between the Glasgow Giants is an appealing thought. Look out for a rule change by the selfpreservationleague if it looms though.

Now that Rix is in @ Tynecastle, we can turn our gaze on Estadio Ibrox. Best man to replace McLeish ? Why, step forward Maurice Johnston ! He ticks ALL the boxes - star ex player, successuful coach etc. I understand he can`t wait to swop the dreary weather Stateside & the bigotted, fishbowl pressure...

PLIGHT OF THE PROVINCIALS

That`s true, there IS no place like the borders - thank god. Same with Motherwell where there`s a cheery sign saying "Welcome to Motherwell" & some jolly japer has added "Your" at the front. Tee hee joke shop.
