Re: 1979 CUP FINAL

Was it decided after this to go to penalty shoot-outs and no replays?

I'm surprised that penalty shoot-outs or golden goals (aka "next goal's the winner") weren't standard earlier given the numerous cases of umpteen replays and, quite likely, more difficult travel.

They're getting beat by Roma as well, which I'm sure pleases them.

Re: 'Big' club dominance in European leagues

Well, it shows the points spread between top and bottom so is pretty accurate at showing competition in a particular league - but as mentioned in the post it depends on the make-up of the division in question. Average points difference between 1st & 2nd could just as easily be between bottom and 2n...

Re: Willie Miller

Pretty much impossible for them to have signed simultaneously as Miller would have been 14-15 when Buchan skippered the Dons to Scottish Cup victory in 1970. Yes, but they were both registered players (that's what I meant by signed, not the discrete action of signing a contract) at Aberdeen from 5 ...

Re: Willie Miller

I think the dates given in that source relate to the dates the transfers were listed in the Weekly News. The actual signing would have been before then. I imagine the source you're referring to is the one bluedragon mentioned? Since wikipedia will come from whichever source the author of the articl...

Re: Willie Miller

Thanks, bluedragon. wikipedia has it as 1972, but who can ever tell with that?

Willie Miller

Do any of you lads know the exact date (not just the year) on which Willie Miller signed for Aberdeen?
I'm trying to find out if he and Martin Buchan were simultaneously signed at Aberdeen (Buchan left on 29 February 1972).

Thanks for any help.

Re: 'Big' club dominance in European leagues

I don't think this is the best figure to measure "dominance". What about the percentage of league titles won by the top two (or three in Portugal or the Netherlands)? A figure like this could be distorted by the Loughboroughs and St. Johnstone 1976s of this world. What about average points differen...

What about average points difference between first and second. 83.8% of championship to the gruesome twosome.

What are these figures?

Surely not average attendances.

Re: European Attendances as percentage of population 2013.

Scottish, do you have the data to be able to compare percentage of income spent on football in these countries? It does look, very broadly, like the higher percentages are wealthier, but one would have to know average incomes, probably by city or region, and average entrance prices. I wouldn't ask a...

Re: John Collins interview

I agree entirely with Collins, although it's a theme that's been gone over for many years. I believe Joe Jordan tried to implement similar ideas at Hearts and they were rejected by the senior players. It's very sad if that included, possibly above all, Craig Levein, whom I've met several times and k...
