Re: Leith Athletic - help please
Good detective work there! I have Brydon on 7 but Broadley on 9 (at that date - just one Lge game to go). Also. I had miscounted on first check when I posted - I said 12 for Love, should be 13 which ties in with figure you refer to. I don't have him as scoring in final game so seems likely that 13 w...

Re: Leith Athletic - help please
Didn't know the full details of the DFC - I had him as wounded by shrapnel over Arnhem in 1944 so guessing he was part of the ill-fated Operation Market Garden involving the Paras. If you DM me a name & address I'd be happy to send you a copy of the programme that had the article on Johnny (v Civil ...

Re: Leith Athletic - help please
Happy to help. Curious as to what your interest in Johnny Love is? Just asking because he was one of the players featured in a series of articles on "They Wore the Black & White" in last season's Leith Athletic match programme.

Re: Leith Athletic - help please
In addition to what the other lads have already posted I can advise as follows: 1) 1941/42 was Leith's only playing year during WW2. Old Meadowbank was requisitioned by the Military & used as a Transport Depot. After the war ended Leith had to fight for compensation as the ground was totally destroy...

Re: "B" international in Mainz 2002
Sad to hear that - but not surprised. "Modern fitba" - money is all, supporters are incidental. As you point out that's one tidy wee source of income for the SFA. Take it the Guidance Notes are no more then - they were superb, very collectable in themselves.

Re: "B" international in Mainz 2002
Sad that that's how the "Travel Club" has gone. I let my membership lapse a few years back now - I joined right at the start (No.306 I think I was). Progress.........not!

Re: "B" international in Mainz 2002
Spot on re comments about big Willie & Marjory. What a lovely, classy lady she was. Recall all the help she gave to us when we were sorting a trip to the games in Busan (South Korea) & Hong Kong in 2002. Also recall fondly her getting in touch when I was in hospital several months later with a brain...

Re: "B" international in Mainz 2002
I was at that game - recall it being one VERY cold night. Think it was referred to as the "Scotland Future" team. Seem to recall they played another game in Turkey (I wasn't at that one). There was no programme as such for the game in Mainz but big Willie McDougal who was the SFA Security man at the...

Re: NLS Visit 2016?
Still hoping to make it to NLS tomorrow morning but all depends on whether plumber makes it out tonight. Come home to find washing machine has flooded kitchen. If emergency plumber gets to me tonight then I'm sound. But if he/she doesn't get to me tonight then it'll be tomorrow morning between 08:30...

Scottish Cup 2016/17 Crowds
For my own records does anyone have a note of the crowd for the 2 away games Leith Athletic played in this season's Scottish Cup - at St Cuthbert Wanderers 13 August & at Cumbernauld Colts 5 October? Thanks.

Re: Online Sources
Additions to the online British Newspaper Archive this week include a good number of issues of "Athletic News" covering the years 1910 to 1911; 1922 to 1926 & 1930. Some very decent coverage of Scottish football.

Re: Football exhibitions this summer
Visited the Stirling Albion exhibition yesterday. Most of the exhibits relate to the club's history but no less interesting for that as there are some very interesting artifacts & storyboards. Couple of display cases & storyboards on the 1966 trip to Japan. Definitely worth a visit if passing. Was a...

Re: Football exhibitions this summer
Took in the Berwickshire Football exhibition at Coldstream this week. Excellent. Well laid out - plenty interesting artifacts & photographs & good storyboards. Sections on Coldstream, Duns, Eyemouth United & Chirnside United FC's as well as general. The magnificent Scottish Qualifying Cup, on loan f...
