Re: Some come-back by Leith Athletic
It was originally scheduled to be a Leith Athletic home match but their temporary home ground of the Royal Gymnasium in Stockbridge was not available (not sure if it was because season had over-run or, if like the club's own home of Old Meadowbank, it had been taken over for war effort purposes). It...

I'd be very interested in this too. Regularly use the NSL archives & those across the road at the Central Library.

Re: Heriot-Watt University FC
According to the index of the Scottish Football Historian there is an article on the history of Heriot-Watt University FC in edition 98 on page 18. Unfortunately I do not have a copy but you can purchase back copies. Brilliant. As it turned out I had a copy so I've been able to check it out. Thanks.

Heriot-Watt University FC
I had it in my mind from a while back that there was a published history of Heriot-Watt University FC (seem to recall it was more a booklet than a book) but I have been unable to track down any reference in the likes of the National Library or National Archives. Now beginning to doubt my memory - ma...

Re: Edinburgh University FC & Spartans FC - Old Ground
I think there's a book in there on long-gone Edinburgh grounds where senior football was once played. Andy, over to you for your next project now you've finished the Dunblane FC book!!!

Re: Edinburgh University FC & Spartans FC - Old Ground
Pefect lads. Both replies much appreciated & they answer my query. I was just doing a bit of research yesterday as regards grounds Spartans have played on for the match programme when their 2nd XI are due to play Leith Athletic in the EoS Lge. All I had was the name "Canal Field" (prior to City Park...

Edinburgh University FC & Spartans FC - Old Ground
Edinburgh University & Spartans Football Clubs used to share a ground called Canal Field prior to the mid-1970's when Edinburgh Uni moved to Peffermill & Spartans to City Park. I'm trying to track down where Canal Field was but I'm not having a lot of luck on the map front & I've got some conflictin...

Re: Info on Thomas Cleghorn (Leith Ath, Liverpool, Portsmout
Kjell I'll email Cleghorn's Leith Athletic stats to you either later in the weekend or first thing next week. I also have a portrait photo of him & I can send you that too if you like? I can confirm brothers Matt (right-half) & Hugh (outside-left) McQueen both also played with Leith Athletic at this...

Re: Info on Thomas Cleghorn (Leith Ath, Liverpool, Portsmout
I have him born 13 February 1870 in Edinburgh. Died 23 October 1946 in Lanark. At the time of his death (as a result of a cerebral heomarage 9 days earlier) he was a hotel proprietor at 68 High Street Lanark. Signed for Leith Athletic in 1892 where he stayed for 2 seasons (playing 30 Scottish League...

Re: Bathgate Park, Edinburgh
Re Wood's Park in Portobello mentioned above. The park was part of the Wood's Bottle Works in Portobello which later became part of United Glass. United Glass had a Social Club which I've seen described as the entrance to the park. The football park was bordered by Baileyfield Road & Rosefield Place...

Re: Bathgate Park, Edinburgh
Bathgate Park took its name from the City Councillor who first arranged for the derelict gasworks site to be turned over to Junior side Edinburgh Emmet to build themselves a park, which was little more than a cinder pitch with a perimeter fence - Baillie Bathgate. At one end of the ground a track/pa...
