Re: Information Sharing
I am in a similar position with ongoing research into Leith Athletic & have the majority of line-ups, etc ,albeit with gaps, from 1887 to 1954 & like you I would not want to put it online enmasse at the moment but I would also be willing to help out other club researchers with info, etc.

Re: Online Sources
Noticed today that the British Newspaper Archive has added more copies of the "Fife Free Press & Kirkcaldy Guardian", this time for the period 1894 to 1899. This was a weekly newspaper with wonderfully detailed match reports including line-ups for games in the Kirkcaldy area. Superb if you're resear...

Scottish Alliance League 1923-24
In connection with ongoing research into Leith Athletic FC I am trying to finalise a definitive League Table for the Scottish Alliance League for the 1923/34 season when Leith took part along with 12 other club's 'A' (reserve) sides. The League started out with 14 teams but Motherwell 'A' resigned i...

Re: Arthur Montford
After winning the Scotsport Annual competition in 1974 I was invited onto Scotsport in May 1974 to be given my prize - an all-paid trip for 2 to see Scotland play in the World Cup finals in West Germany. I'd only just turned 17 & Arthur was absolutely brilliant at putting a nervous laddie at ease be...

Re: Lochgelly Utd v Inverness Clachnacuddin 24/01/1920
Research coming along nicely. Just a few loose ends to tie up/verify then I do indeed hope to publish a book. As to how many people will be interested in a club that played its last game in 1954 I'm not sure but its a story that deserves to be recorded/told.

Re: Lochgelly Utd v Inverness Clachnacuddin 24/01/1920
Hi Alan I can't help out with the actual match details you require but I can maybe help by saying where they might be found. A couple of months ago I went to the Jenny Lee Centre in Lochgelly which houses the local library as part of my ongoing research into Leith Athletic. They have copies of the l...

Re: Edinburgh Inter City Team 1938
Hi Gordon Not the same family I'm afraid - at least as far as I'm aware. Only relative on the Whitelaw side of the family that played professionally was my uncle Bobby (Wilson) - that was in the 50's & 60's with Aberdeen, Norwich City & Accrington Stanley. Having said that, the Whitelaw's were a big...

Re: Edinburgh Inter City Team 1938
Bluedragon - you are the man! You've made my day sir - many thanks. I have no doubt you are spot on with saying it was a BB match. The S.Whitelaw you mentioned in the Edinburgh team was my great uncle Sammy & he was in the 59th Company of the BB's which was attached to St Andrew's church in Musselbu...

Edinburgh Inter City Team 1938
Come into possession of a postcard which is a team line-up from 1938. Little folder it was in describes the team as Edinburgh Inter City Team for match against Stirling on 26 March 1938. All the players look to be late teens, possibly very early 20's so I'm guessing it was possibly a juvenile repres...

Re: Scottish Alliance
Re Leith Athletic's involvement in the setting up of the proposed Scotttish Alliance. They certainly seemed to have been commited at the outset & at a meeting on 28 March 1891 the Leith Athletic honorary secretary - John Grieve - was elected to the post of Vice-President of the new Scottish Alliance...

Re: Earliest League Substitute?
Leith's John Marshall broke his left leg in the first half after a clash with Doyle of Celtic. The replacement allowed was called Hamilton. 2 players with the surname Hamilton, both forwards, appeared in Leith line-ups that season - initials T & W. T.Hamilton appeared in more line-ups than W but I c...

Re: Anyone recognise this trophy?
Any chance it might be the trophy awarded to the winners of the annual charity match played in the 40's & 50's when an Edinburgh Select would play against glamour opposition at Easter Road one year, Tynecastle the next? Think it was known as the Allinson Trophy?

Re: Leith Athletic's Grounds
Ordnance Survey maps of 1896 show a "cricket ground" in Wardie bordered by Wardie Road, Rosebank Road and Afton Terrace but not stretching as far as Granton Road. That might help? I'm pretty sure the ground was in this general area but the difficulty in establishing exactly where it was located is ...
