Re: St Mirren to Celtic

Looking through this:

Johnny Gibson in 76?

Does seem an awful long time, doesn't it?

Edit: he seemed to be signed as a free agent, so perhaps Denis Connaghan in 71?

Re: League reconstruction, part 96...

Lbb, That was kind of my issue with the new split - by game 21 or 22 if not earlier, you would have teams who were going to finish 9-12 who would be playing teams 1-8 where one teams points will carry forward and one teams won't. I couldn't see how it would work unless you zeroed all the points of a...

Re: Today's crowd?

I've now received figures of 26,824 for Sunday's match and 22,268 for Saturday's which is a little down on the reported figure of 22,410. Though there is no figure for the crowd at the start of the second half on Saturday, which I gather was somewhat down on the number at kick-off! Not as much as t...

Re: Today's crowd?

I've emailed the SFA this morning in the (since the departure of Andy Mitchell) forlorn hope of a response. What do you mean by quasi-official? From one of the clubs? Yep from one of the clubs - through a third party - he asked Dundee United and was given the 22,400 figure. Having been there on Sat...

Re: Today's crowd?

Still cannae find the crowd, although I've been given a quasi official figure of 22,400 and the suggestion less than 16,000 Celtic fans attended.

Re: League reconstruction, part 96...

It is hard to believe that the SPL could become any more opaque and out of touch than they were last year. That's my take on it - I think they've learnt nothing from the hash they made of the Rangers situation last year, and I'm completely unable to follow what is so better about the proposals than...

Re: St Mirren history published in 1924

Thanks for this Andy - brilliant stuff. Do you use a conventional scanner? I ask because I've started the process of putting some books into digital format, having given up on them ever seeing the light of day on kindle - even the recent ones. I found this page: http://www.instructables.com/id/Barga...

From a Hibs perspective, I'd be surprised if Lawrie Reilly didn't make the top 50.

Re: The Herald - The 50 Greatest Scottish Footballers

One I would say for the likes of Gemmill, McQueen, Dalglish is that they played in what might have been the best Scottish team of the last 100 years; I think I've seen retrospective FIFA rankings that placed Scotland 3rd in the mid 70s. That said, I'd say there's half a dozen better choices in each ...

Re: Rangers Crowds Analysed

Provided clubs haven't changed the way they report crowds - although I suppose it'd be unlikely anyone would find out - then it's comparing apples to apples, so even if each figure is somehow inflated, it's still accurately reflecting trends up or down. Also, while people often criticise the counti...

Re: Rangers Crowds Analysed

Reporting ticket sales rather than attendees is clouding the issue now; it's like the tories and their seasonally adjusted unemployment figures. EG Hearts are supposedly the second best supported SPL team by quite a way, but in their last home game I've heard a figure of 6405 quoted as being inside ...

There's another thread on here about the 'Bellshill Phenomenon' which is as simple as there being a maternity hospital there.
