East End Park / Dunfermline (general queries)

I should be over in Scotland in November (Edinburgh) and would like to go to East End Park (never been there before): Can anyone provide me with general recommendations (train: there are apparently two stations near the ground which are served by trains from Edinburgh, pubs for some pre-match pints ...

The guys at Soccer Books Limited have always done an excellent job, particularly concerning advance orders. Although I have not compared prices with e.g. Amazon, their service has been impeccable for more than 20 years. They were among the first to deliver football books abroad in the pre-internet-e...

So here we are again: Modern-day Scottish Ground Records (based on current capacities pursuant to the numbers as provided by the Scottish Football Review 2005-2006, unless indicated otherwise) / Status: 5 August 2006; latest yearbook source: Rothmans/Sky 2006-2007) Home club / current capacity / rec...

Two facts according to latest reports:

(i) The Swiss are the first to go out of the tournament without conceding a single goal in regulation time.

(ii) The Swiss are the first not to score a single goal in a WC penalty shoot-out.

Come on Portugal!

I admit, Switzerland's game vs the Ukraine was a rather dull exercise for the neutral observer. Just in terms of statistics there is one question: How many sides have gone out of the WC without conceding a single goal during the tournament (regular and extra time; the Swiss beat Togo and South Korea...

Thanks David. This is from the Peterhead forum of 10 May: "JJ's boys have been in over the last couple of days constructing some kind of temporary single tier platform at both (I think) ends. This is a fairly good response from the board to the "I can't see" crew at fairly short notice. This will no...

So this is "vis major" ;-). BTW, I am not so sure, how reliable the 2,850 for the St Mirren game are...

Because they apparently will get a new ground, the fictitious 3,000 should be bettered soon, anyway.

Just a few other updates/amendments: Pittodrie - 20,465; Scotland v Nigeria (Friendly), 17 Apr 2002 Clyde - 7,591 v Manchester United (Friendly), 16 Jul 2005; the official attendance vs Celtic (SC 2006) was 2 below that... Gretna - 2,850 v StMirren (SC), 25 Feb 2006 Hamilton - 4,486 v Dundee (SC), 2...

Not really a useful purchase. Simply boring with too many typos.

Livingston: The Lions' Roar

Just read a review in FourFourTwo. The impression is not too heartening:"...as he (Craig McGill) rattles through the club's history the book slips into a season-by-season analysis that makes the neutral weary...". Despite this rather negative rating, I have just ordered the book (Amazon, £8.99)...

Dundee FC: They Wore The Dark Blue

The updated edition of this statistical record is useful to those who do not have the first edition. As said, because it is a mere update and if your library contains the Rothmans, Scottish Football (League) Reviews etc. this latest publication does not contain much spectacular news. Anyhow, just to...

Clyde vs Celtic Cup game: Official crowd

Just received the information from the matches department of the SFA that the total attendance was 7,589; the 8,000 published elsewhere always seemed suspicious.

Back to Dumbarton. Here is the reply from the club statistician: "(...) So there were 2015 tickets sold but the actual "official" attendance on the day was 1966 (that is not a favourite number for Scottish people :)) Looks like we still haven't had a full-house yet. Hope this helps your statistics a...

Thanks again. Indeed, a certain "distance" is required when reading the book.

BTW: As in the first Rangers Record book the Ibrox record crowd is given as 118,730. The more common number is 118,567.
