Re: Birmingham City v Irvine Meadow XI

I recently acquired the programme for Royal Navy v RAF (played at Birmingham the preceding Wednesday). In a rather 'David & Goliath' billing it lists City's next 2 home games as: Saturday next, 14th March, 1959 Wolverhampton Wanderers Football League (Division 1) Kick-Off 3pm Monday next, 16th March...

Re: McNairn

Does anyone have access to finding out accurate dates of birth, death and marriage? The ScotlandsPeople website https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ is where to go. The online records give you the basics but you can buy credits and with those get copies of the full registration details that will giv...

Re: McNairn

I have found his six League games for Morton in 1947-48, but only one of his two in 1948-49 (23.10.48 at Albion Rovers). Is there a St Mirren statistician out there? Or can anyone tell me which was his second League appearances in 1948-49, please? The Falkirk Herald (Saturday 4 September 1948) repo...

The previous Wales game had Phillips (Swansea) alongside Rodriguez (Cardiff) at full back.
Thank you, Andy. That looks like the same full back partnership in both matches.

Scottish Services XI v Flanders 7 January 1945

A Scottish Services XI selected and organised by the SFA played Flanders in Bruges on 7 January 1945. Although there were extensive newspaper reports of the match the day before against Belgium most newspapers used a short Reuters report for this second match. I wonder if anyone has any more details...

Re: First English winner of Scottish Cup

Harry Clements was an early English-born Scottish Cup finalist but alas not a winner. He played in the St Mirren team that lost to Celtic in the 1908 Final.

Herbert Craik had played a friendly for Morton and was then signed. Days after he was listed in the Morton side selected to play Kilmarnock on 29 December 1900. Re: Junior International records

I have checked the notes of our search for Timmins and they read: “We believe Timmins was a centre-forward. A centre forward Timmons turns up at Cleland 1918-21. Then a centre forward James Timmins is at Fauldhouse United 1922-24. In one of those years the newspaper says Fauldhouse re-sign veteran T...

Re: Junior International records

Thank you very much for finding the first initial of Timmins of Shotts United. Reading through your findings I am sure that it is the same player. Often the only time in those early days we have found a first initial is when a player of the same name is in the same team. However, you then get the qu...

The SFA handbook for 1937 has tour details and gives the Scotland scorers in this order: Meiklejohn pen, Duncan, Gallacher, Mills.

If nothing else, it does indicate further research needed!
Thanks Andy. That looks to give us the order of the Scottish goals.
