Origins of the Charles McKerrow Trophy
I am looking for any information regarding the origins of the Charles McKerrow trophy. I think it might be in honour of a Royal Army Medical Corps doctor, from Ayrshire who was killed in December 1916 and was a keen player and umpire of Army teams during the First World War. I would like any relevant information for a book I am writing on significant figures in medicine in the Great War. Thanks.
Hi there and welcome to the forum. The earliest record I can find of this trophy is 1958-59. Winners list
It was competed for by the winners of the North & South 2nd divisions of the Ayrshire Amateur League. However in 2006-07 the geographical sections were abolished so I don't know if the trophy was played for last season or not.
The 2005-06 winners were Kilmarnock Town If they are still in possession of the trophy then they may at least be able to tell you the season in which it was first contested.
