Hello,
Another Liverpool related question from me. In August, 1893, Liverpool signed a player named James Stott from Middlesbrough. In the early part of his career he was connected with Cambuslang, certainly during the 1889-90 season.
I have his career as:
Cambuslang, 1889.
South Bank, signed, August – 1890.
Middlesbrough, signed. May – 1892.
Liverpool, signed, August 6 – 1893;
* registered with the Football League, August 7 – 1893;
* eligible for Liverpool in official matches, September 1 – 1893.
Grimsby Town, signed, July 29 – 1894.
Newcastle United, signed, August 29 – 1895
Middlesbrough, signed, September 15 – 1899.
He died on October 8, 1908 - either in Newcastle or in Cambuslang. Would anyone know anything more about this player, pre Cambuslang - correct birth date?
He is not in the Lister discs under Stott, but I suspect he is the "James Scott" that is connected with Cambuslang that season, and also Maybole.
My profile page for Jimmy Stott can be found http://kjellhanssen.com/1908/10/08/jame ... mmy-stott/.

Re: James Stott, Cambuslang, 1889
He died in Newcastle. There is a sad little entry in Probate records: James Stott of Star Inn, 79 Westgate Road, Newcastle, publican died 8 October 1908 at Newcastle City Lunatic Asylum, Gosforth.
Admin was to Jane Stott, widow, which leads to the 1901 census entry where he is in Newcastle as a pub storekeeper, age 30, born Darlington (1870-71). There was a James Stott born Darlington Oct-Dec 1870, so that's probably him.

A pen picture of James Stott at South Bank (1891/92).
Born Darlington, aged 22, lived most of his life in Scotland, turned professional this term, South Bank signed him from Cambuslang. He has been of utmost of service to the team, although only 22 has long service with the Bankers and quite a favourite. Weight 12st. Height 5ft 10ins.
