Number of Players Used in a Season

This season Clyde have (apparently, I haven't checked for myself) used 40 different players in an attempt to find a winning formula (and there's still time left...). Even allowing for squad sizes these days, this is surely some kind of record.....

NB Apologies if this has been raised as another topic elsewhere, couldn't find anything relevant.

Cheers

Just had a quick check of my World War One book and to give the extremes of season 1914/15 Celtic used only 16 players in their campaign while Queen's Park used 52. These figures include league, glasgow cup, charity cup and war fund shield matches. The main reason for this would be that Celtic had no players doing war service while Queen's Park had at least 26 by April 1915. Hope this helps.

Thanks Alan. I'm sure also that Dundee used a paltry number of players when they won the league in 1961/62, a figure of 14 springs to my mind.

15 Dundee players for their league winning season. It was Liverpool who used 14 players when they won the league in 1965-66.

And of those 14, Alf Arrowsmith played just three times and Bobby Graham once. Of the Dundee 15, Alex Stuart played twice,George McGeachie three times, Bobby Waddell four and Craig Brown nine.

Particularly "unofficial" wartime seasons. Kilmarnock for instance used 47 in 1945-46

Dunfermline used 14 players in winning promotion in 1933/34. It would perhaps have been lower but for the four different players given a run in the 'problem' number nine jersey.

14 players? I don't think anyone can beat that one Gordon!
Forrest my total of 52 players for Queen's Park 1914/15 included Frank Walkers solitary appearance v Ayr United in the Ayr Charity Cup. My apologies.

That's about eight more games than I thought wee Broon had played.

Just looked up Norrie Price's 'They Wore The Dark Blue.' He made nine appearances, covering the whole of February and March, as cover for Bobby Cox then Bobby Wishart.

Airdrieonians used 45 players in season 2000/01 - that was the season where Steve Archibald left us in the lurch in February, we had six weeks in abeyance, then Ian McCall pulled together a completely new side. We avoided relegation too...
