Some come-back by Leith Athletic
Re: Some come-back by Leith Athletic
Reading this, I have a terrible vision of the poor wee stringer who was sent to cover this game, trying to get a reasonable description of all 14 goals into a 100-word report. And, did "Junior" get signed, after scoring his hat-trick?

Re: Some come-back by Leith Athletic
It was originally scheduled to be a Leith Athletic home match but their temporary home ground of the Royal Gymnasium in Stockbridge was not available (not sure if it was because season had over-run or, if like the club's own home of Old Meadowbank, it had been taken over for war effort purposes). It would prove to be Leith's last game for over 4 years until they recommenced in August 1946. Robertson, who scored a hat-trick for Leith in this 7-7 draw also scored another hat-trick for the club just 4 weeks earlier in the semi-final of the East of Scotland Shield against Hearts at Tynecastle. His defence let him down that night too with Hearts rattling in 10 goals to Leith's 3.

According to Monday's Evening News, Leith Renton had use of the Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon for a cup tie, while there were two amateur matches at Meadowbank.Boris57 wrote:It was originally scheduled to be a Leith Athletic home match but their temporary home ground of the Royal Gymnasium in Stockbridge was not available (not sure if it was because season had over-run or, if like the club's own home of Old Meadowbank, it had been taken over for war effort purposes).

Perhaps not quite such a comeback from a huge deficit but Glasgow Cup 1st Round @ Beechwood Park, Thistle, the home side, took the lead in 5 minutes through Willie Park vs. Queen`s Park who then proceeded to pummel the cheeky upstarts with goals from Bob Fraser 3, Billy Sellar and William Berry two each, Davie Allan and Allan Stewart to win 9-1.
