Thomas McLeod

Post by J.S.Norway » Mon Jul 08, 2019 1:33 pm

He played for Liverpool (1945-51), Chesterfield (1951/52), Wisbeck Town (1952-54) and Dundee United (1954). He signed from BAOR in Germany in October 1945. He was born 26/12-1920. Did he play for any scottish clubs before or under WW2?

I found two references that said he played for a team called Edinburgh Royal immediately before the Second World War. I am fairly sure this was not a Junior club and therefore more likely an amateur or juvenile team. However, I could not find a club of that name. However, it may have been shortened e.g. did say Edinburgh Royal Infirmary have an amateur team and I did find a "Royal Engineers" team in the local amateur ranks at that time. I hope someone may be able to help further.

There was a Royal Athletic FC playing Edinburgh Juvenile football in the early 1900's but they appear to be defunct by the time Thomas McLeod was playing.

Two others possibilities from local Edinburgh football at his time were the Royal Scots Greys (unlikely this would have been a team of soldiers) and Royal Botanic Gardens. If the " Edinburgh Royal" has been mis-spelt then there was an "Edinburgh Rovers" at that time.
