D v S

Post by LEATHERSTOCKING » Sat Jun 06, 2020 9:45 am

I have a photograph, which for some reason won`t transfer onto this page, of an international style cap probably dark blue with silver trim to cap an peak with D v S in silver thread on the cap and 1911 on the peak. I believe it was awarded to Alex Todd who signed for Queen`s Park circa 1912. He lived in Clydebank so the cap might be Dunbartonshire vs. Stirlingshire(?) at Junior, Juvenile level. Does anyone know of this D v S, a date and which club Todd played for?

He played for Clydebank Juniors and was selected for the inter-county match between Stirlingshire and Dumbartonshire (as the Scottish Referee spelt it) on 24 February 1912 at the Emmet Ground, Kilsyth. Unfortunately, he had to withdraw due to a family bereavement.

Gordon, Thank you for the reply(so quick!). I`ve discovered Todd Played for Kirkintilloch Rob Roy in season 1910-11 before returning to Clydebank Juniors for 1911-12. Do you have a date for the game he DID play in(1910-11)?

Dunbartonshire was spelled Dumbartonshire until 1896 so I think the reporter must have forgotten the change.

He was selected as reserve for the match against Stirlingshire on 18 February 1911 at Kelvinside Park, Kirkintilloch. The BNA site has gone down for maintenance (on a Saturday, as usual) so I'll check later to see if he actually played.

He did play for Dunbartonshire against Renfrewshire on 15 January 1910.

Todd didn't play in the 1911 D v S match so he was either awarded the cap for being twelfth man in 1910/11 or for playing in the 1911/12 fixture.

In 1911 Kelvindale Park was flooded so the game was switched to Coxdale Park, home of Kirkintilloch Harp.

He also played against Stirlingshire on 19 February 1910.

He played for the juvenile side Kilbowie Union before joining Clydebank Juniors in 1905. From there he moved on to Yoker Athletic in 1907 and then to Rob Roy in 1909.

Gordon,
That`s splendid, thank you. If you ask Andy Mitchell, he`ll give you my e.mail address for future conversations.
