New online research resource: Journal of Sports History

This is not directly related to Scottish football, but is nonetheless a useful research tool.

The North American Society for Sports History has just relaunched its website for the Journal of Sports History, with a huge range of online searchable publications. These include every Official Report of the Olympic Games back to 1896, some older American sporting journals, and its own publications.

Click on the link below and go to the 'back issues' table, then search away. It lists all the publications in the database, which clearly have a strong Olympic bias.

I have done a bit of exploring and am still finding my way around, but the best thing seems to be to key in a couple of search words - eg type in Football Glasgow and it comes up with 246 results. Or key in publication year 1908 and it comes up with more than 2,000 items - useful for researching the London Olympics of that year, for instance.

Of course, a lot of the recent stuff is an American view of the sporting world, so to be taken with a big pinch of salt, but wouldn't it be great if there was a British equivalent? It is also unusual in that no subscription or registration is necessary.
