There may be some alterior motive in getting Levein tied up @ Hampden quickly. I don`t know but perhaps someone else was sniffing around or perhaps Levein himself, who is claimed to have been very keen to get the job, was concerned he`d be passed over & never offered it again.

If he CAN restructure Scottish football from schoolboys up along with Peter Houston, Jim Fleeting & Billy Stark before he shoots the craw, he`ll have done well even if we qualify for hee-haw.

If Levein is a failure, he will be sacked after 2.5 years / if a 'success', he'll be off to the EPL in 2.5 years. Regardless, not all of his ideas are IMO that great so do we really want him restructuring everything anyway? Not IMO.
