I had the same feeling about the film "CITIZEN KANE" - highly acclaimed, top of every cinema buff`s "best" list, "must see" etc.; I found it totally incomprehensible, presumptive tosh half way through. Orson Welles`s best film was undoubtedly "THE THIRD MAN"; good fim, from an excellent book. I presume THE THIRD MAN the only film where the leading male character is called "Holly"?

You mean other than 'The Buddy Holly Story?'

Of course in the book his name is Rollo

And he's English (as is Harry Lime)

And he's not the narrator

And he gets the girl at the end

But other than that a fairly accurate adaptation.

Saw it in Vienna a couple of years ago where it is still shown three times a week and there is a whole 'Third Man' industry.

I thought 'Citizen Kane' was a decent film but, like you, couldn't understand the hype. Then again I'm easily pleased, having ranked as many as 38 films (and a further 35 TV programmes/series) with a perfect ten on IMDB.

I gave 'Kane' seven.

How about film/TV programmes with a football theme? We could have the THIRD LANARK MAN.

Did the TV thing a few years ago here

The movies have much potential.

FROM HERE TO ETERNITY could be the story of Ayr United's search for a major trophy

Craig Brown and Alex Smith have been around so long they could fight for the lead role in A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS

Who else but John Terry for AN IDEAL HUSBAND

Jimmy Calderwood and Jimmy Nicholl are of course the new stars of GOODFELLAS

Most of the output of the Scottish print media could be found in RAGING BULL

I hope to see Calderwood & Nicholl again in THE GREAT ESCAPE

Somerset Park, Ibrox and Parkhead all vie for the right to be the location of BADLANDS

Our friends in the press feature again in SECRETS AND LIES

Last night's bore between Sunderland and Stoke would qualify as THE BIG SLEEP

Davie Dodds wins the Oscar hands down for THE ELEPHANT MAN

Any recent Rangers line-up plus sub make up THE DIRTY DOZEN

Scott Macdonald, Gary Caldwell, Chris Killen and friends could star in THE DEPARTED

Fergus McCann has already given us Cadete, Van Hooijdonk and Di Canio as The THREE AMIGOS

Ally McCoist's career was THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE

4.45 at Rugby Park this season so far has been GROUNDHOG DAY

Edmiston Drive & Janefield Street are MEAN STREETS

Somerset Park makes another appearance in PLANET OF THE APES and indeed again in STALAG 17

This time last year Kevin Kyle emerged as SUPERMAN. Time, methinks, for SUPERMAN RETURNS

Jorg Albertz is remembered at Ibrox as THE GOOD GERMAN

Once upon a time Joe and Gerry were THE FABULOUS BAKER BOYS

Jim Farry was THE GREAT DICTATOR

John Terry is back again as THE JERK

In the 1960s Hal Stewart introduced us to THE VIKINGS

Celtic plus sub could be TWELVE MONKEYS

Barry Ferguson & Allan McGregor star in 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE

Davie Dodds again in ALIEN

Eddie Morrison is a must for I AM LEGEND

If Killie do go down this season then I hope at least it can be said THEY DIED WITH THEIR BOOTS ON

Then there's the story of Hibs and the Scottish Cup - BRIEF ENCOUNTER

Arsene Wenger is a shoo-in for SEE NO EVIL, HEAR NO EVIL

And I'll end with the return from day out at the OF - FROM HELL

Which of course wasn't made by Orson Welles. It was made by Carol Reed, another man with a girl's name.
