Thanks for that notification Andy. I have already spoken to Carol-Ann, John-Archie's daughter, obituary filed.

With John-Archie's death, the new boy in our First XI is Eddie Connachan, the third goalkeeper to be in the "team".

The line-up now reads:

Bobby Brown (Rangers) - three caps – 1946/47 : 1951-52: d.o.b. 19/03/1923

Doug Cowie (Dundee) - 20 caps - 1952-53 : 1957-58: d.o.b. 01/05/1926

Jock Aird (Burnley) – four caps – 1953-54: d.o.b. 18/12/1926

Tommy Docherty (Preston NE and Arsenal) - 25 caps - 1951-59: d.o.b. 28/04/1928

Ian McMillan (Airdrieonians and Rangers) – six caps – 1952-61: d.o.b. 18/03/1931

John Grant (Hibernian) – two caps – 1958-59: d.o.b. 16/06/1931

Mike Cullen (Luton Town) – one cap – 1955-56: d.o.b. 03/07/1931

Eric Caldow (Rangers) - 40 caps - 1957-1963: d.o.b. 14/05/1934

Jimmy Millar (Rangers) – 2 caps – 1963: d.o.b. 20/11/1934

Lawrie Leslie (Airdire) – 5 aps – 1960-61: d.o.b. 17/03/1935

Eddie Connachan (Dunfermline Athletic) – 2 caps – 1961-62: d.o.b. 27/08/1935

Purely out of interest, is Eddie Connachan related to Dennis?

I think Dennis is a "Connaghan" with a "g" rather than a "c".

With the death of Eric Caldow on 4 March, while the board was out of commission, the survivors' eleven has taken another hit.

I`m seriously considering withdrawing from this website; this thread is making me feel ancient. Players who I watched when they were quite young are now shuffling off this mortal coil with disturbing rapidity.

The death of Lawrie Leslie this week means we need to find two new replacements for the XI.

Does anyone know where LL died? Most obituaries make no reference, the Herald says in a nursing home, presumably somewhere around London or Kent.

A post on a Millwall forum mentions a care home in Wilmington in Dartford.

Very sad to hear about Bobby Brown. He made his Queen`s Park debut vs.Celtic @ Parkhead in a 4-4 wartime league game on 13th April 1940 aged just 16yrs 25days. He was more or less QP`s regular `keeper intil 1942 when he joined the Royal Navy making sporadic appearances at Hampden until sharing goalkeeping duties with Ronnie Simpson during 1945-46 season at the end of which Rangers signed him. In all, he made 103 1st Xl appearances in the black sweater with the broad white band. An all time Hampden "great".

Doug Cowie's grandchildren have been in touch with me to point out I have the wrong date of birth - they inform me it should be 5th May 1926 and not the 1st.
It's the Hope I can't stand
