Daniel Munro (Cowdenbeath/Dunfermline Athletic)

Post by bluedragon » Wed Aug 05, 2020 1:33 pm

At the start of the 1907/08 season the newspapers reported that “D. Munro (Glencraig), a junior internationalist" had signed for Kelty Rangers. We cannot find him playing for the SJFA (or even in a trial match) or playing for a junior league against the Irish Junior League. We think he might be Daniel Munro that John Litster's disk says signed for Cowdenbeath in March 1908 and then joined Dunfermline Athletic in January 1909. The position (outside left) is the same but we have nothing else to link the two players.

Can anyone help please.

Cowdenbeath certainly signed him from Kelty Rangers but other than that I'm not much help. There doesn't seem to have been a Daniel Munro born in Fife at the appropriate time so could he perhaps have gained representative honours earlier in his career, with a club outside Fife?

Also, at the beginning of 1906/07 there was some doubt about Glencraig Rangers playing that season and their name doesn't appear to crop up at all, although there was a juvenile side in Glencraig - could he have been recognised at that level, rather than junior?

Thanks for your help, Gordon. With what you say about Glencraig Rangers and the fact he is reported as “D. Munro (Glencraig)” suggests he probably did step up from the juveniles.

There is a "Munro (Strathclyde)" who played in a Junior Scotland trial match as a centre forward in 1903 but we have traced him to Petershill, Third Lanark, Notts County and Glentoran so that means it is not him.
