Does anyone have a list?

Or 400 plus appearances for more than one club?

Cannae let that pass. Here's the Rangers list.

513 Sandy Archibald (forget Rothmans which says Greig is the record holder)
498 John Greig
490 Dougie Gray
490 Davie Meiklejohn
451 Sandy Jardine
418 Ally McCoist
407 Tommy Cairns
407 Alec Smith
382 Alan Morton
376 Davie Cooper
370 Bert Manderson
369 Derek Johnstone
360 Ian McColl
354 Bob McPhail
351 Peter McCloy
350 Andy Cunningham
341 Colin Jackson
336 Alex MacDonald
326 Arthur Dixon
317 Richard Gough
315 Jimmy Gordon
301 Ronnie McKinnon
300 Tommy McLean

Spare a thought for Jimmy Bowie and George Brown who both made exactly 299 league appearances
Fifty one and counting

Compiled from various sources I make this the Thistle all-time list
416 Davie McParland
409 Alan Rough (Rothmans gives Rough (410) as the highest
405 Jackie Campbell
398 Eddie McLeod (includes four from 1939-40)
387 Willie Bulloch
374 Alex Elliott (includes five from 1939-40)
346 Stewart Calderwood
340 Davie Ness

And this is Hamilton Accies post-war
452 Rikki Ferguson
373 Jim Frew
332 Jamie Fairlie

The following teams do not have a player with 300 league appearances
Dumbarton, Elgin City, Gretna, Peterhead, Ross County, St Johnstone and if you count them as a new club, Airdrie United.

If you restrict it to 400 appearances then you can add these clubs as having had no player to make 400 league appearances:
Albion Rovers, Dundee (???), Falkirk (???), Livingston, Morton (???), St Mirren (???), Stenhousemuir.

I put the ??? for those clubs as I'm fairly sure the Rothmans figures for them refer to post-war only and these clubs may well have had pre-war players with 400+ appearances. But it would take a lot of time to check.

If Rothmans are right (and as can be seen from this post and others that's not necessarily the case) then Charlie Christie with 308 for ICT and Keith Knox with 301 for Stranraer would appear to be the only players to pass 300 for either of those clubs.

If you've got the disk with post-war appearances you should cut and paste into a blank spreadsheet then sort by club, player then season. That's a halfway house to getting those with over 300 for one club as you'll be able to see at a glance which players were at which club for any length of time and you can add up their tallies yourself. Easier than going through an A-Z

BTW the shortest possible time to have spent with one club to accumulate 300 appearances is eight seasons post 1975 and nine before that or ten if playing in the late 40s early 50s

You sure about that. It's doing my nut in. I've spent the past hour at it with mixed results. I tried with the 'A's and was able to format one sheet in the order club, season, player but nothing else worked. In the 'B's I was able to format a sheet as club, season, player and another as club, player season but then in the 'C's nothing at all.

Just does nothing. I've tried inserting extra worksheets and formatting them as text but nothing happens.

It's driving me up the wall.

Sounds like you're copying the whole sheet across. Just move the data. That's what I did.

I've got the wonderous disk, I was going to use it to compile the Hibs list.

One for future reference I think :)

Think I've got the hang of the copying and pasting now. Once done it's then possible to compile individual team and/or season lists.

But i won't bother just yet. According to the Scottish Football Historian there's a new edition coming out in a couple of months time. That should add in the last two seasons and iron out some of the glitches - like Jim Baxter appearing as two separate players. I mean, I know he was good but..... :)

I've loaded the disc into my database and fixed a few minor anomalies between the different sheets.

I've loaded some results onto the website
