Queens were never likely title contenders -- though they did have their moments -- but their ability to live with the elite is clearly demonstrated here by their results against Celtic. On twenty visits to Palmerston Park their illustrious guests managed just seven victories. With three games drawn, the home side claimed full points on ten occasions.

But an away replay triumph followed by a third round bye set up a home tie with Aberdeen.

Again, a home draw in a thrilling match appeared to presage the end. But after another long haul, Queens pulled off a magnificent win at Pittodrie -- every bit a home stronghold then as it has been in more recent times. So it was off to Hampden and a Rangers team aiming for their third successive Cup triumph. A 1-1 draw in front of over 50,000 spectators showed Queens at their finest. But Rangers prevailed rather too easily in the replay. The same couldn't be said in 2008 when Queens marched magnificently to the Final, ousting Aberdeen 4-3 in the semi-finals then giving Rangers a real fright before succumbing 3-2 in the Final.
