Re: Official attendance query

Another question. When was the last time Scotland played in front of a home crowd of less than 20,000 for a WC or EC Qualifier? Late 90's during Hampden rebuild? Yes, Pittodrie on October 14th 1988, a 2-1 (!) win over the Faroes. 18,517. The same week at Tynecastle, on the 10th, 16,930 watched a th...

Re: 1982 UEFA U18 Championship - Lineups?

The line-ups are not in the newspapers - perhaps distracted by the Falklands War and the Scottish Cup Final - but I managed to find the team in the SFA Annual: 23 May 1982, at Kotka. Referee F Latzin (Austria) R Rae (Hibernian), D Beaumont (Dundee United), J Philliben (Stirling Albion), D Rennie (L...

1982 UEFA U18 Championship - Lineups?

Does anyone have the match lineups from this tournament, which Scotland won? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1982_UEFA_European_Under-18_Championship An Albanian researcher is asking for the Scotland-Albania game specifically, but it would be good to have them for the whole tournament, particularly si...

Re: Scottish Football Almanac 4th Edition, 2017/18

It got here today, many thanks for the fast postage. Been flicking through it tonight and probably the most amazing part is finding out Chris Templeman has scored 191 goals in 681 games! Close second - finding out that Greenock and District is one of just two remaining winter welfare leagues. Needle...

Re: First of Many I Guess...

Perhaps unsurprisingly, quite a lot of terrace chants and songs have their origin in hymns and other religious songs. Off the top of my head - "When the Saints Go Marching In" (self-explanatory)... "This is my Story, This is my Song" / "Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine"... "Stand Free"+"We are XYZ ...

Re: Scottish Football Almanac 4th Edition, 2017/18

Trying to order from the US, which doesn't give me any postage costs. I assume this is in error as believe me, it costs a lot to ship a book here from the US. Is it possible to add this option? If not I'll be back home for a few days in September so I can get it posted then, but I'd prefer not to do...

Re: TOP TIER LOWS

For last season, Cypriot top flight club Doxa (who manged a crowd of 4 - four - in a league game in January 2015) managed a low of 11 against Anagennisi Deryneia on January 7th 2017. Doxa are owned by a rich businessman, so they have former Liga and EFL Championship players like Coro, Albert Serran,...

Re: Birth dates for Scottish internationalists

I don't have any dates but I do know that Johnny Deakin served in the Army into the 50s and this prevented him from going further with his career. Maybe there's some military records that can help. He may well have lived post-football in Northern Ireland, where his wife was from.

Re: TOP TIER AVERAGES

Wiki says India's average rose slightly in the 2015 season, to 27,111. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Indian_Super_League_season#Average_home_attendances Note that this average doesn't take into account a match played at a neutral venue: Chennaiyin vs. Kolkata in December was played in Pune due ...

Re: Clubs Reforming

I was browsing Wikipedia last night and noticed Vale of Clyde have a formation date of 1873. Does their history really extend back that far unbroken? They don't have a website and I don't have any books on Junior football (not in this hemisphere, anyway - some in the basement back in Scotland...)

Re: Scottish Football League Results

I read the same article last week, very interesting stuff: http://www.theedinburghreporter.co.uk/2013/09/rot-weiss-essen-0-4-hibernian-14-september-1955/ They made it back from Denmark fine, but fog in London (probably Croydon) prevented their getting up the road in time for kick-off. Lawrie Reilly,...
