Re: A goalkeeping first?

Maybe Blair Currie and Max Currie. Both have been playing in the SPFL for the last few years. Not sure if they have crossed paths on the pitch, though.

Re: Floodlit Firsts

There have certainly been other matches abandoned since 1995. A couple that spring to mind: Aberdeen v Motherwell in 2016 and Raith Rovers v Dunfermline just a year ago in August 2021: https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/19532254.raith-rovers-reveal-details-investigation-dunfermline-clash-abandoned/

Re: Archie Ritchie (1872-1932)

I wrote about him last month, after another researcher found his gravestone and pointed out that the dates did not match the 1872 birth. After checking, I found that the boy born in Kirkcaldy in 1872 died aged 11 weeks of smallpox. And that led me to the correct identity. See https://www.scottishspo...

Re: Meadow and Kilbirnie books

For Irvine Meadow, they appear to be only on sale by cash in the clubhouse (!) at £10. But I suggest you send a message to Gordon McCreath, who is on facebook. I wasn't aware of a Kilbirnie club history - the new book is an autobiography by Jim Marner. Again, details on facebook although he did do a...

Re: Pat Quinn or Davie Wilson - who got the goal?

Thanks for all the responses. It is understandable why Pat Quinn was given the credit, as it must have looked like he got the last touch to anyone watching in 'real time'. But the film evidence is clear that he missed the ball, so the goal should be Davie Wilson's. Gabe, thanks for agreeing to chang...

Pat Quinn or Davie Wilson - who got the goal?

The recent passing of Davie Wilson raised a query about his international goals. I hesitate to mention the 9-3 game in 1961 but Pat Quinn is usually credited with Scotland's third. However, the SFA archive gives the goal to Davie Wilson, who also got the second. You can watch footage online at https...

The Lost Final, with Pat Nevin

I really enjoyed this programme by Pat Nevin, about the Scotland Under 18 team that won the UEFA title in 1982.

Re: Willie Bremner

He is not listed in David Allan's definitive who's who of Cowdenbeath, which infers that he didn't play in the first team.

However, he did play in one game for Cowdenbeath, v Stenhousemuir on 11 August 1945. He was also in Cowdenbeath's pre-season public trial match the previous week.

Re: Scottish Schools' Under-18 team

The 'Under 18 football for Scotland' suggestion is widely posted, including his wikipedia entry, but I can't seen any confirmation of it. Certainly not Scottish Schools or SFA, so possibly one of the minor levels such as juvenile. It may be stating the obvious, but have you tried asking him? He's on...

Re: More dates of birth and death

Hutchison went to USA and settled in Chicago with his wife Jeanie - his WW1 draft card gives that date of birth. He died in Chicago. His dates are a bit muddled, but I guess the gravestone gives the correct date of death, 16 January 1950: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/212728344/harry-b-hutchis...

Re: Peter Baines

Probably not. There was a passing newspaper reference to his previous clubs in 1947, which mentioned him as a wartime guest for various clubs including Hibs. However, there is no report of him in the Scottish press as a trialist (and as a black player, he would surely have been remarked upon). Hibs ...
