I really enjoyed this programme by Pat Nevin, about the Scotland Under 18 team that won the UEFA title in 1982.

Re: Willie Bremner
He is not listed in David Allan's definitive who's who of Cowdenbeath, which infers that he didn't play in the first team.
However, he did play in one game for Cowdenbeath, v Stenhousemuir on 11 August 1945. He was also in Cowdenbeath's pre-season public trial match the previous week.

Re: Scottish Schools' Under-18 team
The 'Under 18 football for Scotland' suggestion is widely posted, including his wikipedia entry, but I can't seen any confirmation of it. Certainly not Scottish Schools or SFA, so possibly one of the minor levels such as juvenile. It may be stating the obvious, but have you tried asking him? He's on...

Re: More dates of birth and death
Hutchison went to USA and settled in Chicago with his wife Jeanie - his WW1 draft card gives that date of birth. He died in Chicago. His dates are a bit muddled, but I guess the gravestone gives the correct date of death, 16 January 1950: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/212728344/harry-b-hutchis...

Yes, I asked Bill Hern about this, and the information in his book came from the same newspaper cutting.

Re: Peter Baines
Probably not. There was a passing newspaper reference to his previous clubs in 1947, which mentioned him as a wartime guest for various clubs including Hibs. However, there is no report of him in the Scottish press as a trialist (and as a black player, he would surely have been remarked upon). Hibs ...

Re: Women's Football
Do you mean club football or the national team? I've been working for a while on the national team records, which are complete since the SFA took over in 1998. I'm now focussing on the 1972-1997 era and hope to be able to publish everything later this year, in time for the 50th anniversary. You can ...

Re: 1967 Oceanic Tour 5 games updated to Full Internationals
It's been like that for quite a while - very frustrating and not fit for purpose. I've grumbled at various people within the SFA but nobody seems to want to take responsibility. Meanwhile, the archive is still there despite the search function not working. The easiest way to get in is to search a pl...

Re: 1967 Oceanic Tour 5 games updated to Full Internationals
Having spoken to people within the Scottish Football Museum, I have now been assured that this proposal to discount the 1946 and 2002 games will not be happening. The project was commissioned by the Museum, and never went anywhere near the SFA, while the 'historian tasked with producing this informa...

Re: Goddard for Ayr United?
Daily Record, Monday 26 November 1917: 'It was freely rumoured in Ayr that Bert Freeman (Burnley) and Goddard (Liverpool) would strip for United against Kilmarnock. Both are presently stationed in Ayrshire.' However, the match report makes no mention of either of them. Ayr United did have a forward ...

Re: Wilson - sprinter and footballer?
His first name was William - there are several references to him as William Wilson or Wm Wilson. He won the SAAU 100 yards title in 1895, held at Hampden Park, and came third in 1896 (when it was won by Willie Maley). The SAAU was a short-lived breakaway from the SAAA over a disagreement on the defi...

Re: Willie Donnelly (1872-1948)
According to The Alphabet of the Celts, he was one of four Belfast Celtic players who were suspended after a 3-2 defeat to Derry City on 2 November 1901.
