Eddie MacLaine (Albion Rovers/Hamilton Academical)

Can anyone help to find a photograph of Eddie MacLaine taken during his short playing days in Scotland? He is in the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame but they only have a photograph of Eddie later in life and are looking for a younger photograph to include in his entry.

It is probably a very difficult task. The best chance appears to be in a team photograph of Albion Rovers and /or Hamilton Academical from the early 1920’s.

This is what we know of his football career in Scotland.

Edward “Eddie/Ed” MacLaine was born in Coatbridge on 11 April 1899. He joined the King’s Own Scottish Borderers in 1917, served in India and later transferred to the Scots Guards before being discharged from the Army in 1921. He played for Woodside in the North West Lanarkshire Juvenile League before joining Albion Rovers in February 1922. At around this time he had a trial with Rangers. He then moved to Dykehead (Western League) in February 1923. Canadian sources say he was at Hamilton Academical from February to April 1923. He signed for Mid-Annandale in July 1923 before returning to Dykehead, now a Scottish League club, in March 1924. Canadian sources say he returned to Albion Rovers at some time from April 1923 to 1924. He emigrated to Canada later in 1924. He went on become a record goal scorer in Canada and continued as an administrator after hanging up his boots.

Thank you.
